He is also a keen surfer, skier and collector of rare craft beers, and enjoys being an active member of a Facebook Group for each interest!

Beth Lingard

Beth has been conducting research at Facebook for the past 2 years. Most recently, Beth joined the Groups team as their research manager in January. Prior to joining Facebook, Beth conducted research at a variety of companies from start-ups to consulting at Fortune 500 companies across a variety of industries. As the mom of a 3-year-old son without family nearby, various parenting groups have been her “village” when raising her son. They’ve helped her through the sleepless nights of the newborn phase, transitioning back to work, and most importantly keeping in touch with other amazing parents.

Lola Omolola

Founder and lead group admin, Female IN (FIN)

ola Omolola was born in Lagos, Nigeria and moved to the US in 2001 after winning the Diversity Visa program lottery and becoming a US citizen. A college-educated Nigerian and American journalist, she has a background in broadcast journalism and digital project management.

Lola's passion is around women's issues and creating safe and supportive communities that give women a voice. She is the founder and lead group admin of “Female IN (FIN),” a secret Facebook group with over one million members. FIN’s mission is to disrupt the culture of silence which surrounds the shared experience of women in the Nigerian and African culture, whose voices are historically belittled or disregarded. A women-only group, FIN is a supportive, non-judgmental, safe haven and a resource for suicide prevention, domestic violence, and sexual assault efforts. FIN also facilitates skill development, business networking and job placements among women. It hosts official social meet-ups called the FIN hangout: vibrant bonding and networking events which have taken place in more than 60 cities across Africa, Europe, and the US.

Lola lives in Chicago with her husband and two children.

Confronting Conflict

Experts on group dynamics share both how and why conflict can occur and how to manage it to a positive outcome.

Carrie Melissa Jones

Founding Partner and COO, CMX Media

Carrie Melissa Jones is Founding Partner and COO of CMX, an organization that provides events and training for community teams. A Seattle resident, Carrie has been building online community since her days as a supermoderator of an emo music forum in the early 2000s. She has since managed communities of 2 to 20,000 members locally and for companies such as Chegg, Scribd, and Coursera. Her favorite community member of all time is her dog Bruce Wayne.

Mike Rognlien

Americas Learning & Development Leader, Facebook

In 6 years at Facebook, Mike has done just about everything in the learning & development world at Facebook. He has owned orientation and onboarding, built Facebook’s first-ever professional and manager development programming, partnered with COO Sheryl Sandberg and the LeanIn team to build Facebook’s Managing Unconscious Bias course (available to all at managingbias.fb.com) and served as the L&D leader for both the technical teams across Facebook and the Americas as a region. He has spent most of his career in tech – first with Intel, later as a consultant to Microsoft and now at Facebook – and is most passionate about helping people identify, develop and play to their strengths while teaching them how to leverage the same in others. He is currently serving as the L&D leader for the many business (G&A) functions at Facebook (think everything EXCEPT tech and sales) and owns the core development experience for people new to managing or new to managing at Facebook. In addition, he is a main Facebook POC for performers, producers, composers, social media influencers and other theater peeps on Broadway. He has seen Hamilton 17 times, loves running (badly) and has never met a shoe he didn’t at least kind of want to wear. He’s based at Facebook’s Chicago office, has been at Facebook longer than 97% of its employees and is now a fully-realized Chicago Cubs fan.
